Although Lucy has worked her whole life to get away from her family’s grifter past, to save her brother, she dons three-inch heels and a sluts-r-us dress and struts into Alec’s Gerald’s casino, determined to put her long-forgotten thieving ways to the test again. Alec Gerald, a shape-shifting dragon, has built the Crown Jewel casino to provide sanctuary for his people amongst the flash and awe of Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the sexy little thief trying to rob his gem exhibit turns out to be his mate, and he must woo her before he loses his dragon form forever. With enemies in every corner, and the all-important mating ceremony looming, Alec and Lucy must learn to trust each other, before time runs out for Alec and the rest of the dragons. |
I am delighted to join the Buckeye
Girl Reads blog to today to celebrate the release of my fun, paranormal romance,
Luck of the Dragon!
I am talking about desire today, by
way of a true story of how I went off-track in my
hunt through the Ozark Hills for an eight-foot tall dragon sculpture. My
obsessive need to possess one of these sculptures got me in a lot of trouble,
and worse left me unable to write.
Let’s
pick up the story. My husband and I had just found the compound of the
reclusive sculpture artist and seen the AMAZING dragon sculptures for
the first time in his hillbilly yard.

Each metal dragon
was as big as three men, sculpted in rusted iron, their wings spread mid-leap
from the ground with elegant strokes that bespoke of sinew, and muscle, and
bone. Stretched over the metal wing lattice was some kind of melted candle-wax
looking material, which let through the late afternoon sunlight. I loved the
grace of the wings and their curved necks and the long suspended tails,
juxtaposed with the rough weathered metal patina.
“I. Love.
Them!” I opened the truck door, only to slam it shut fast, and zip-up the
window, when two huge Doberman pinchers and a pit-bull bounded toward us.
“Better wait.” My husband turned off the truck
and we sat in the barking cacophony, waiting to see if anyone emerged from the
tidy single story house. Sure enough, after a few minutes a surly man in dirty
sweats and a flannel shirt stepped out, with a coffee mug in his hand, but no
gun.
A good sign.
I rolled down
my window half-way. “Hi,” I said over the dogs, and gave him my most-winning,
former-pharmaceutical rep smile. “We heard about your dragon sculptures and I
wondered if we could have a look at them?”
At this point
in the story I need to give you the “artist” a name, although I did not learn
it until we were leaving. Rather, my husband was reversing out the driveway,
while I hauled myself into the bed of the truck.
Let’s just call
him Bob.

In my new release, LUCK OF THE
DRAGON, Alec my shape-shifting dragon hero, desires Lucy the moment he sees
her.
“Alec sensed
the woman the minute he stepped on stage. She stood near a column in a short
red dress. She was the gemologist, the one Leo had arranged to appraise the
exhibit.
He finished his
speech, pausing for applause and laughing in all the right spots, but his eyes
never left the woman. He watched her toss back a twenty-five dollar drink like
it was water and then “stumble” into a high-roller. It was a ruse, as there was
nothing impaired about the woman. She was a contradiction: A brainy Ph.D, whose
curriculum vitae read like a woman who didn’t get out much, in a dress that
proclaimed she never stayed home.
Alec’s senses
hummed under his skin in primal awareness, and he only half-listened to his
arguing lieutenants before Jane led the gemologist inside the casino. When she
turned, Alec traced the small bumps of her spine to her narrow waist and
swaying back. A small flower tattoo sat above the curve of her hips, just
visible below the back of her dress. His hands reached toward her retreating
back, and his men stopped talking mid-sentence.”
The only
problem is Lucy is being blackmailed to steal from his casino…
Hi-jinks and
hot romance ensue!
So what do you
think about Lucy and Alec? What about the dragon sculptures? Have you ever
desired something so much, that you forgot the cost and/or potential personal
harm? Do share! Thank you for following my release tour.
All my best,
Susannah Scott
