In the sea of stars, an epic love story is about to begin...
Earth is dying. Nick Venture, the last living descendant of Christopher Columbus, embarks on a dangerous mission to find a new planet and save humanity. This places him on a collision course with Raquel Donovan, the deadliest space pirate in the galaxy. Raquel lives for one purpose: revenge against a horrible demon from her past. When an attempt to hijack Nick’s starship backfires, Raquel becomes his protector in order to avoid capture by the tyrannical Space Defense Corps. Nick and Raquel are irresistibly drawn to one another despite the forbidden nature of their attraction. But the conflicted pirate’s deepest secret could tear the couple apart even as humanity’s time runs out…

Sci Fi Romance is a new genre for me. I have to say that I am really starting to like this genre. The heroines are strong and kick ass and are very independent.

I have to be honest-I expected a tad more romance and a lot more of space smex; however, the story managed to hold my interest even when Nick kept acting like an idiot around Raquel. (He moaned quite a lot over why she didn't feel the same way about him that he did about her.) This is going to sound weird-but after awhile I realized I kinda of liked Nick acting like an idiot about Raquel instead of the other way around. It's always nice when the guys do the chasing of the girl-and Raquel gave this guy quite a chase.

Nick was such a unique character. He was thrown into a leadership role in a job that he had no experience in. He started out being really unsure of himself, and felt like asking for help would diminish his role as captain. He gradually came to listen to his crew and they came to respect him much more for it in the long run. The crew members in this book are what kept me reading when I felt like Nick and Raquel should have spent much more time together then what they did. Their slang, like Uncle Goddamn had me rolling. I am somehow going to have to work that phrase into my vocabulary!  While I loved the crew, Nick and Raquel were harder to like. Their stubbornness was just too much at times. I did gradually come to like them and understood why they acted the way they did-but it took awhile. I'm not sure how much of  how I felt about Nick and Raquel is because I read this book on my computer and not my kindle, rather then the actual chemistry between the two. Sometimes I think reading ebooks this way makes it harder to enjoy the story being told.

The secondary storyline of saving Earth was an interesting one. I liked how it was thrown in there without being preachy. It's just goes to show what could happen in a not so distant future if we don't stop changing our ways and take better care of our planet. It was just a nice refreshing storyline then just having a romance happen.

Bottom line: It was a nice change of pace from the erotica novellas I usually read.

Favorite Quote:
Bewitched with pleasure, she gasped for air. Nick‟s lips pressed against the inner curve of her left breast—a warm, sweet nuzzling. She felt his body shifting as he tried to maneuver between her legs. The telltale rush of blood heralded an orgasm. It felt good.Too good, clamored the warnings in her head. Ecstasy she didn‟t deserve was clouding her judgment.

Author Character Interview w/Gini Koch & Giveaway

***THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED****

Please help me welcome one of my favorite authors to the Blog-Gini Koch author of the Katherine "Kitty" Katt series. She's brought with her two of my favorite characters Kitty, our awesome heroine and her best friend Chuckie.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Alien in the Family, book three in the Katherine Kitty Katt series, goes on sale April 6th. I love this series so much that I'm giving away my own copies of Touched by An Alien and Alien Tango so everyone can get caught up! Details are at the end of the interview. Kitty does like to talk, so apologizes for the length-but it's well worth the read! Now, onto the interview!

Gini, thank you so much for letting Kitty and Chuckie have this interview with me!

1. Kitty and Chuckie can you tell us a bit about the series so far for those readers who *gasp* aren't familiar with it yet?

Kitty: Sure! About a year ago I discovered that the Roswell rumors are true, but with a twist. The aliens are here to help protect us from a lot worse aliens, and the added bonus is they’re all drop-dead gorgeous. After I helped save the day with hairspray, a Mont Blanc pen, rock and roll, and thinking way, way outside the box, I got deeper into Centaurion Division. As time goes on, we discover more enemies, more conspiracies, and more threats, both internal and very external. So, I spend a lot of time kicking butt, taking names, and saving the day with the most gorgeous people on Earth. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it, and I’m willing to take one for the team.
Chuckie: That’s a great spin.
Kitty: Thanks! How do you see it so far?
Chuckie:: A bunch of aliens showed up and stole my girl from me, that’s how I see it.
Kitty: Wow. You’re so dramatic all of a sudden.
Chuckie: Yeah? Well, from my perspective, that’s the main thread.
Kitty: You’re pro-alien! You’re Mister Conspiracy Theories!
Chuckie: I’m also in love with you. Hence…
Kitty: Oh, fine, good point. But they’re good aliens.
Chuckie: Yes. I’ve heard they’re exceptionally good in bed, too. Constantly.
Kitty: That sounded snide.
Chuckie: Did it? Can’t imagine why I’d feel snide about it.
Kitty: You really have nothing to defend, dude. You qualify as Gold Standard.
Chuckie: That and three dollars gets me a cup of coffee I get to drink alone.
Kitty: So maudlin. You could have any girl you set your mind to, you know.
Chuckie: Except the one I want.
Kitty: The guilt is kind of hard to deal with.
Chuckie: Is it? Darn.
Kitty: You’ll get over me.
Chuckie: We’ll see.
Kitty: You will. I’m sure of it.
Chuckie: Until a year or so ago, you were sure there weren’t aliens on Earth.
Kitty: Until a year or so ago, you were sure I’d never find out.
Chuckie: I’m going to let you “win” this one, because I know there are more questions. Enjoy the last word.
Kitty: You don’t know me! I don’t always have to have the last word!
Chuckie: Right.
Kitty: I don’t! Next question!

2. Kitty, you and Chuckie have been best friends since high school, can you tell me why the girls should be on Team Chuckie?

Kitty: Oh, wow, so many reasons.
Chuckie: Thanks. I think and hope.
Kitty: Dude, you always worry about the wrong things. Okay, he’s brilliant, he’s tall, he’s handsome, he’s a great dancer, he’s fun, he’s funny, he’s great in bed --
Chuckie: Uh, that’s kind of too much information, don’t you think?
Kitty: Do you have any idea who’s asking these questions and reading them? Trust me, I’m both telling the truth and upping your Team Memberships at the same time. Now, where was I? Oh, right, fab in bed, Mister Gold Standard, and he’s very sweet. Oh, and rich, too. Don’t forget that. Because he’s also really generous, and picks out great, thoughtful gifts.
Chuckie: And yet, you’re not marrying me.
Kitty: You asked at the wrong time.
Chuckie: Technically, I asked twice. Apparently both times were the wrong time.
Kitty: Bitter much?
Chuckie: No, I’m not. Just…disappointed.
Kitty: I wasn’t clear, okay? Sense of humor? Thought it was a joke. You could have told me I was wrong, you know.
Chuckie: Let’s not start. This conversation never ends the way I’d like it to.

3. Chuckie, what's your favorite thing about Kitty?

Chuckie:: Love everything about her.
Kitty: Isn’t he sweet?
Chuckie: Thanks. But if I had to pick one thing, probably that she never saw me as a geek.
Kitty: Because you weren’t and you aren’t. You’re totally cool, the smartest guy in any room, loads of fun, great sense of humor, and you love comics as much as I do. And you’re pretty damned hot these days, too. For a human.
Chuckie: And yet, you’re not marrying me.
Kitty: You caught the “for a human” part, right?
Chuckie: Oh yeah, I caught it. It’s a good thing I’m pro-alien. Or at least pro “our” aliens.
Kitty: I agree.

4. Chuckie Are you a fan of her Kittyism's?

Chuckie: I’m a fan of every single thing about Kitty, including the way she talks and thinks.
Kitty: Isn’t he sweet?
Chuckie: We’re not going there again. It’s hard on a man’s ego, to be told how great he is, only to find out that he’s not quite great enough.
Kitty: I think you’re awesome, Chuckie, you know that.
Chuckie: And you’re marrying who, again?
Kitty: Right. Next question?

5. Here's a question for both of you: What was your favorite part of Alien Tango?

Chuckie: For me, probably the reunion. It was both nice to spend time alone with Kitty and it was also my main screen time in the book.
Kitty:  I liked seeing you, but the reunion wasn’t really my finest hour, if you think about it.
Chuckie: I thought you were great.
Kitty: Yeah, but you’re biased. Um, my favorite parts of Alien Tango will kind of make Chuckie uncomfortable.
Chuckie: You mean your favorite parts were whenever you were banging Martini.
Kitty: Yeah. You really know me well, don’t you?
Chuckie: Better than he does.
Kitty: True enough. At least for now.
Chuckie: Well, we’ll see how it goes. Engaged and married aren’t the same thing.
Kitty: True enough. Wait a minute, do you know something I don’t?
Chuckie: Potentially, I know a great many things you don’t. But if you mean in terms of what’s coming, I might know some things.
Kitty: I think The Creator likes you best.
Chuckie: She does.
Kitty: Show off.

6. Kitty it was great seeing you and Chuckie together in Alien Tango, will we be seeing more of you together?

Kitty: Absolutely! He’s one of my two best guy friends and my oldest friend. I expect to see Chuckie for the rest of my life.
Chuckie: I’m also the head of the ET Division for the C.I.A., so not only will I see Kitty on a personal level, but also on a professional one.
Kitty: Jeff hates that.
Chuckie: I know. Now, ask me if I care.
Kitty: Oh, dude, seriously, I know you don’t. But play nicely.
Chuckie: I do my best.
Kitty:  And your best is awesome!
Chuckie: Say that around Martini enough, and I might like what happens.

7. Chuckie, Bells from Hanging with Bells has a question for you: Is there anything in the past that you'd do differently?

Chuckie: Yes, absolutely. One thing, mainly. I’d have told Kitty I wasn’t joking when we were in Vegas the first time.
Kitty: That would have made things very different, don’t you think?
Chuckie: I’d really like to think so, yeah.
Kitty: Of course, based on everything I’ve gone through since meeting the gang from Alpha Centauri, I think the world might have ended if I hadn’t been in the right place at the right time.
Chuckie: Maybe. Maybe this world. Possibly not all the worlds.
Kitty: You want to expand on that?
Chuckie: Not at this precise time.
Kitty: Is this another thing The Creator’s told you that she hasn’t told me?
Chuckie: That’s classified.
Kitty: It’s me!
Chuckie: It’s still classified.
Kitty: Jeff would tell me.
Chuckie: No. He’d lie, you’d be able to instantly tell, and you’d weasel it out of him. Now, if you’re willing to do with me what I know you’d do with him to get the intel, we can talk about it. If not, and I know what answer I’m expecting, then you’ll just have to find out when everyone else does.
Kitty: Fine, fine.
Chuckie: And that’s the answer I was expecting.
Kitty: Stop looking so smug.
Chuckie: Sometimes you make it so easy for me, I can’t resist.

8. Kitty, do you see yourself going on any missions with the AC girls?

Kitty:  Do you mean besides Lorraine and Claudia? Because, per The Creator, there’s lots of missions coming up, and there are plenty of A-C girls ready to rock and roll. As for me, personally, already went on missions with my girls, so yeah, I expect to continue to do so.
Chuckie: As the Head of Airborne, Kitty has a lot of influence but Martini still makes the Field agent decisions.
Kitty: And then I ignore them.
Chuckie: Good point.

9. Kitty, do you think that Jeff and Chuckie will ever be friends?

Kitty: Down the line? Sure, I think it’s possible. Do I think it’s LIKELY? Well, a girl can hope, right?
Chuckie: As far as I’m concerned, Martini’s had the only screw up in regard to Kitty I’ll ever allow. He screws up again, friendship won’t be what anyone’s worried about.
Kitty: Yes, yes, I think he’s clear on the fact that you’ll be watching him.
C: For the rest of our lives.
Kitty: But, let’s assume that Jeff doesn’t get drugged by our enemies again and, in fact, doesn’t screw up. Then what are the odds?
Chuckie: Anything’s possible. As long as he’s taking care of you, treating you right, and not endangering you, our country, or our world, I’m fine to let him live.
Kitty: Live? This is a question about friendship!
Chuckie: This is me telling you that it’s going to take a lot more than a fruit basket. Accept it.
Kitty: Alpha males!
Chuckie: According to so many, neither Martini nor I are considered Alpha. We’re supposedly Beta.
Kitty: Well, as far as I’m concerned, you’re both Alphas, because you don’t become the top dudes at young ages by being sweet little wimps.
Chuckie: As always, I like how you think.

10. Can either of you give us a hint at what Alien in the Family will bring?

Kitty: Poofs!
Chuckie: Assassination squads.
Kitty: Poofs!
Chuckie: Invasions.
Kitty: Poofs!
Chuckie: More conspiracies.
Kitty: Poofs!
Chuckie: More action and intrigue.
Kitty: Poofs!
Chuckie: I’m letting her stick with Poofs because I, personally, prefer that to “sex with Martini!” as her constant answer.
Kitty: Well, there’s that, too.
Chuckie: Go back to the Poofs.

Thanks again Chuckie and Kitty for joining us today!! Review: Seduce me by Robyn DeHart

Title: Seduce Me
Author: Robyn De Hart
Genre: Historical Romance
Series: Legend Hunters #1
Publisher:  Forever
Number of Pages: 294

When I saw Treasure Me, reviewed over at Smexybooks I was intrigued by the story of a historical romance centered around the story of finding the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. I discovered that it was book three in a series, and the virgo in me would not let me read the series out of order, so I quickly got Seduce Me, book one in the Legend Hunters series from my library. I am so glad I did-it was surprisingly good and I found a great new historical romance author that I can't wait to read more of.

Fielding Grey, (who just happens to be the second son of a Marquess) has just discovered that the legend of the Alexandria Library to be true. He was paid to search out this great treasure, and found it. However, he can't enjoy his success because he's approached by an organization that he hates-Solomons (whose members devote their life to finding treasures like Atlantis) to find Pandora's Box to keep it from getting it into the hands of the wrong person-his uncle. He reluctantly agrees to go and get the box-he just can't turn down their price.

When he goes to get  the box, he finds something unexpected-Esme Worthington has been kidnapped by his Uncle goons for her information about how to open the box.  Fielding just can't leave her there, so he rescues her and gets the box away from his uncles men..but not before they have opened the box and released two of the curses. To make matters worse, Esme opened the box and released Lust. The two work together to stop the curses and keep his uncle from re-kidnapping Esme and from getting the box.

I loved the overall storyline of Seduce Me. It just was a refreshing read in historical romance. While I thought it was really stupid of Esme (who should've known better) to open the box, it allowed her to make a lot of the moves on Fielding instead of the other way around as it usually is. I also really liked that Esme was smart and was the scholar of the two. The inner struggles that she had with her feelings toward Fielding and that he had for her were touching.  I liked that both had reservations toward each other, but overcame them. Fiedling was such a great hero. He had more struggles to deal with then Esme had. He had to work out the demons from  his past in order to be able to do the job at hand and deal with his feelings with Esme. While the plot was somewhat predictable, there were a few surprises that I didn't see coming and the villian was such a great bad guy. One of the things I really liked was how the characters for future books were introduced. I really liked Max, one of the people who helps Esme and Fielding out and can't read to his story about Atlantis next. Graeham (sp) the hero of Treasure me was also introduced at the very end of this book. I just enjoyed how their stories didn't interfere with the one being told-I  hate it when that  happens.  Seduce me was a fun read that got me excited about reading historical romances again.

Review: The Wish List by Gabi Stevens

Title: The Wish List
Author: Gabi Stevens
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Time of Transition #1
Publisher: Tor Books
Number of Pages: 384

In the magical world, a TIME OF TRANSITION occurs every seventy years. Old Council members step down and new ones are chosen; but the biggest change is the appointment of the new Fairy Godmothers. Unlike their role in storybooks, Fairy Godmothers protect the barrier between the magical and the human world. Three new godmothers discover their destinies in this three book series. Only this time the Transition won’t be smooth (from goodreads)

Every now and then I discover a series that I just fall in love with. The Wish List is book one in the Time of Transition paranormal series. It's hard to say why I loved this book so much, except that everything worked. Even when I discovered who the bad guy was way before the characters did, it didn't take away from the story and I couldn't wait to see when they would finally wise up and find out that they were being duped, but I'm getting ahead of myself...

Kristen Montgomery is a CPA who one day finds out that she's a Fairy Godmother, and that the women who she considers to be her aunts, are fairy godmothers as well. As soon as her aunts drop the bombshell on her that she's a fairy godmother, they give her only the vaguest info-like she'll have an arbiter to help her adjust through this time of transition, and will decide on if Kristen can handle her new duties. then they leave on vacation. Kristen thinks her aunts have lost it, until she meets her arbiter Tennyson Ritter.

It's hate at first site. Kristen thinks he's a troll, and I laughed every time she called him one. Tennyson doesn't really want to be Kristen's arbiter.  He's a historian and would much rather be studying Merlin's book that he just found. Kristen finds out she's what is called a Rare One. Someone with no ties to the magical community who becomes magical. Even though Tennyson tries to convince Kristen that her powers are pretty strong, she doesn't believe him. In fact she fights him at every turn. She likes things orderly and to add up, but the magic thing has really turned her world upside down.

While her constant denial did get a tad old, I liked how she eventually accepted what was happening to her and then decided to go at it full gutso. As I was reading the story, it felt like I was going through the time of transition with Kristen. Sometimes it annoys me how the heroines of a book just so nonchalantly accept their powers or that those around them have powers and never question anything. It was just a nice change of pace to see Kristens powers appear gradually instead of all at once.

Tennyson was a bit slow at times I thought to see what was really going on around them, but I enjoyed his banter with Kristen his frustration with trying to convince her that magic is real and that she just can't take off on her own during her time of transition. He tries his best to protect her from the villain who is trying to convince her to go over to the bad side and take over the magical worlds governing body with them. (If I say who it is, it gives too much away) As I stated before I spotted the villain right away, and at times didn't see how someone as smart as Kristen could miss the obvious, but it was still fun seeing her and Tennyson gradually come to their senses to see who it was.

There were a few eye rolling moments in the book, but it was a sweet book and one you just want to curl up in a blanket and not come out until you've finished it. There are just times when light and cute is all you need. I also loved that the paranormal creatures weren't your typical vampires, ghosts, werewolves or fae.  I can't wait to read the second book in the series, As You Wish.

Review: Wild Desire by Lori Brighton

Title: Wild Desire
Author: Lori Brighton
Genre: Historical Romacnce (touch of paranormal)
Series: Techincally a stand alone, but is the second book after Wild Heart
Publisher: Zebra
Number of pages: 320
Source: Sent to me by the author to read

Lori Brightons historical romances take me to another time and place, and Wild Desire was no execption. I loved the setting in India and it was just a great read. This was also my Friday Reads for the week of March 18th. :)

Beatrice Edmund doesn't know what possessed her to accompy her cousin Leo and his wife Ella (whom we met in Wild Desire) to India to visit Ella's cousin Colin Finch. She's really not sure what to make of Colin. They meet for the first time when he bursts into her room, drunk then announces to everyone that someone is trying to kill him. When he lets Ella and Leo take care of the people are out to get him, Bea thinks he's a coward and tells him so. However, there is so much more going on that she doesn't know and they can't tell her yet. What Bea doesn't know, but the reader does know from the last book is that Ella and Colin have special powers...Ella can sense what animals are feeling and Colin can heal people. Ella and Leo aren't really in India to visit Colin~they are there to stop Ella's evil cousin Henry from getting his hands on a very powerful statue that is said to have magical powers.

The guy who is after Colin to get information just won't stop, and they assume (correctly) that he is working for Henry. The four are forced to leave Colins house and attempt to escape to Bombay where Leo's friend Ashkay is. Of course the trip to Bombay doesn't go quite as planned...the four are forced to take the journey there a part, and Bea finds herself stuck with Colin. She's not happy about it, because she still thinks Colin is a coward and doesn't know how on Earth he'll be able to protect him. Colin isn't too happy about being stuck with Bea either. She reminds him too much of his former fiancee-too strict and proper.  Along the way to catch up to Leo and Ella, the two have one adventure after another. Seriously-the action doesn't stop! They are chased by lots of bad guys who are after the statue, and have lots of escapes getting away from them. Bea and Colin eventually begin to see that they might just be wrong about the first impression they had of each other. They try fight the attraction they have to each other, but are unable to resist it.

What I loved most about these two is that they are both really strong, and refuse to give into their weaknesses. Bea is tired of being timid, and wants to prove to herself that she can keep up with Colin. She regrets leaving her old life behind lots of times, but realizes she'll never have another chance to have an adventure like this again, and toughs it out with the best of them. Bea is also tired of not having answers. She knows that the others are hiding something from her-and is determined to figure out what it is. Once she discovers Colin's secret, she can't quite wrap her head around it then (eventually) admires him for it.
Colin is such a sigh worthy hero. He's a bit of a jerk, but underneath is someone who has just been hurt a lot, and Bea forces him to look at things in a different light.

A lot of times when the mystery of the book is revealed early, I get bored with the story being told. However, such isn't the case here. There are so many twists and turns to the story that you never know what is coming next. In the beginning of the book, I was afraid that Leo and Ella, the stars of the last book, would be around too much and Bea and Colin's story would be lost in theirs, but that isn't the case at all. Ella and Leo are around just enough to refresh what happened in the last book, which I was happy about because I had forgotten more then I realized, and then disappear so that Bea and Colin can have their own story. Wild Desire made me remember why I fell in love with the historical romaance genre, and I loved the touch of paranormal elements to it.

Review: The Liberation of Alice Love by Abby McDonald

Title: The Liberation of Alice Love
Author: Abby McDonald
Genre: British Chick Lit
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Number of Pages: 424
Source: Sent to me from the publisher to review

Alice Love is eating lunch with a friend when her credit card is declined. She figures it's just a mix up with the bank as she's had trouble with that card before. She goes online to check her account and is stunned to find out that her account is in overdraft. It turns out that her so called good friend Ella, has stolen her identity. The banks tell Alice there isn't a lot they can do for her, but her brother in law Stefan who is married to her step sister Flora, has connections and hires Nathan, a cute American to help Alice track down Ella.

The Liberation of Alice Love was a hard book for me to get through. I just had a hard time connecting with Alice and some of her actions.  To find out where Ella went, and how she did what she did, Alice starts going through each receipt shown on her account and visits every step that Ella took while pretending to be her. She founds out more information then the banks and Nathan do. When Alice  discovers that her money was given to charity she feels justified in being friends with Ella because she did something good with the stolen money instead of using it for selfish reasons. Alice then goes on to do everything that Ella did with her money, and while she was supposed to be discovering herself I felt like she was just doing what Ella did.

The first half of this book was so boring I lost track of the number of times I almost gave up on it. However, the second half becomes much more likable and some action finally starts happening. Alice's sister Flora, becomes much more a part of the story and saves the book from only being about Alice. There is one line that mentions Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Flora comments that Alice is a lot like Elizabeth Bennet. Once I read that line, I couldn't help but re-evaluate all the story to see if the characters related to the ones in P/P and it made me like the book a bit more.

Thanks to Sourcebooks for giving me an advanced copy of this book to read-I'm just sorry I couldn't get into it more.
