Ruby Russell has reached her limit. When she discovers her hipster husband has a dirty little secret, she whips him up a Viagra-infused-chocolate mousse punishment, but in the morning, her husband’s a stiff. Armed with a lifetime of crime show reruns and Arsenic and Old Lace on DVD, Ruby and her best friend Charlotte try to lay low until after Ruby’s son’s wedding, but a nosy therapist, meddling minister and local news reporter are making it very difficult to get away with murder

When I heard that Julie Anne Lindsey had a mystery coming out I jumped at the chance to read it because I loved the short story I read by her last summer in the anthology called Summer Shorts.

The mystery surprised me because while the main character Ruby and her best friend Charlotte had me laughing out loud, it was darker then I expected.

Ruby is tired of her cheating husband and does something about it-she makes him some Viagra filled dessert, and he winds up dead the morning. The accidents keep coming and Ruby tries to keep from getting caught until after her sons wedding. Everyone thinks Ruby isn't quite herself, but they don't know why.  Keeping secrets from everyone is hard, especially when a local reporter wants to make a name for herself and is out to prove that Ruby did it.

What I found amazing about this book was even though I disagreed with Rubys actions, I was still laughing out loud at them. Ruby is just lots of fun, and so is her best friend Charlotte. I was surprised to find myself almost cheering Ruby on in her efforts to elude everyone.  If you are a mystery fan and looking for something a bit different then I recommend giving this book a try.
