Author Interview with Sibel Fox, author of the Amber Fox Mystery Series

Please help me welcome author Sibel Hodge to A Buckeye Girl Reads! She is the author of the Amber Fox Chick Lit/Mystery Series: The Fashion Police, Be Careful What You Wish For and Voodoo Deadly, as well many others!

What was the most challenging part of writing a mystery?
Making sure the reader doesn’t guess whodunit before the end.
The Amber Fox series is considered Chick Lit/Mystery  what made you decide to write in that genre? (I love that it is a chick lit mystery series-there are far too few of those books out there!)
Oh, fab, so glad you like it! Well, I love chick lit and I also love mysteries, so I thought why not combine the two. Fun and mystery, what more could you want?
Do you have a favorite mystery or chick lit series that you read?
I love books like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, Gemma Halliday’s High Heels mysteries, and Kate Johnson’s spying mystery series.
How many books are planned for the Amber Fox series?
Amber loves to talk so there will definitely be more! I’m working on ideas for the next mystery but it probably won’t be out until the end of the year.
What makes Amber unique from other heroines?
Amber is a feisty and larger-than-life character, yet, like many of us, she’s aware of her flaws and insecurities. She’s intelligent and strong-willed but vulnerable at the same time, and she’s got a killer sarcastic streak.
If you could choose anyone to play Amber, who would you cast as her?
Oooh, that’s a hard one! I think I’d choose someone like Katherine Heigl or Sandra Bullock.
Do you have any other upcoming projects you would like to tell us about?
My next project is something completely different from my usual chick lit genre - a psychological thriller involving a woman who’s kidnapped and develops amnesia.
What made you decide to self publish?
Unfortunately a book could be brilliantly written, have fantastic characters and plot, have great commercial potential, and yet still not be taken up by a traditional publisher. I think publishers are afraid to take risks on new writers; they want to stick with established authors who already have a large readership. With the existing economic crises as well, this further decreases the opportunities for new authors to break through and become traditionally published. I received lots of rejections for my first two novels (some of them were really nice!), and I came close a couple of times, but it didn’t quite work out, so I took the plunge into indie publishing. I haven’t looked back since!
How would you describe the Amber Fox Series?
Fun and quirky but with a mystery to keep you guessing. Plus, it may make you snort coffee out of your nose from laughing!

Thank you Sibel so much for being on A Buckeye Girl Reads today!!! Here is where to find Sibel:
