Welcome to Apple Trail, Arkansas! If Shellie Chambers has to hear one more condescending comment from her mother about life or men, she might scream. So, she packs up and takes a trip to see her long-missed high school friend, Riley. He'll know exactly what she needs to loosen up. But instead of the girl-chasing jock she remembers from their youth, Riley’s gone country, keeping up a farm of his own. Riley Hamilton has settled down on a farm his uncle left to him. Not the life he ever envisioned, but after getting a girl pregnant in college and then watching helplessly as the baby was aborted, he learned the hard way it was time to settle down. Shellie’s reentry into his life reminds of his wild past and it’s a fight to ignore the tempting woman she has become.

On The Fence is the second book in the Apple Trail, Arkansas series. Let me tell you, these novellas make me want to move to Arkansas, and after spending one weekend there in August for my cousins wedding, I didn't think that would ever be possible!

This is such a sweet story. Riley and Shellie used to be best friends in high school. However, both have drifted away from each other and have only kept in touch through emails and the like. When Shellie needs a break from her life, she knows that she can count on Riley.

What neither of them expect is how much they have changed. Riley isn't the guy who used to get in trouble with Shellie any more. He's responsible and is through getting in trouble. Riley doesn't like that his fun and irresponsible side come out around Shellie, but can resist her. When Shellie finds out why Riley has changed so much, she tries her best to bring the fun back into Riley's life. I really liked these two-especially Riley. I loved seeing his internal struggles...both of these two really needed each other. Shellie has always had a problem of doing everything her mom has planned for her-and Riley helps her get past that.  This wasn't as hot and steamy as Through The Wall was (book one in this series) but it still had a few fun steamy scenes with Riley and Shellie.

This was a novella, so while I would've liked to have seen more insight into both Riley and Shellie's personalities, this was still a fun read that can be read in one sitting.
