I am forever grateful for Lori Brighton's book Historical Romance book, Wild Heart because before I read that book I was almost completely burned out on the historical romance genre. I felt like all the plots were the same. Her book Wild Heart, was like a breath of fresh air-it was a historical romance with a little bit of a paranormal element to the book. My review of Wild Heart is here

I am so happy to have Lori Brighton here today talking about her newest book, The Ghost Hunter. Lori has been nice enough to give away not one, but two E Book copies of this great book-rules on how to enter the giveaway are below!

No easy task, for Cristian is the very man responsible for her father’s disappearance.

How long have you been writing?
I wrote my first book in first grade. It was about a superhero Koala Bear and it won first place in some contest. Alas, I gave my lucrative writing career when I realized there were all of these annoying grammar rules I had to learn. Instead, I went into art, which had a bit more freedom; painting drawing and pottery.  But as a teen I discovered romance novels and honestly felt like I’d died and gone to heaven. It wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I decided to try and write a romance. It took me seven years to get a publishing contract (with Kensington) and that was about 2 years ago. So I suppose I’ve been writing seriously for about nine years.

How many books do you have out right now? Any more on the way?

Right now you can find Wild Heart, a historical romance published by Kensington, on Amazon and it might still be out in some bookstores.

The second book in that series, Wild Desire, will be out in March. You’ll be able to find that book online and at major book stores.  And, of course The Ghost Hunter, my contemporary paranormal, is currently available.

What made you decide to write a Paranormal Romance?
I’ve always been interested in the paranormal. We lived in a haunted house when I was a child. Well, it was either haunted or I had a huge imagination. Probably the imagination. lol. But it wasn’t until I met two critique partners, Urban Fantasy author H.P. Mallory and Romance author Harris Channing, that I decided to write a paranormal book straight through. Both were working on paranormals at the time. That book I started is now available, The Ghost Hunter! Paranormals are just plain fun. You never know what’s going to happen and there’s really no limit to what you can do.

Was it hard switching genres from historical romance?
I’ve always written every genre. My first book was a romantic suspense. Then I went into historicals. Took a break to write contemporary paranormal. I even have a young adult with editors right now. So I’m constantly working on different genres. But it does take my brain awhile to make the switch when I go from a more formal historical voice, to a more casual contemporary voice.

Which genre is harder to write, or are they equally as hard?
Historical is more difficult because you have so much research to do and the voice is more formal. Historical romance readers are not shy about telling you when you get a fact wrong!

I loved the Dante quote used in The Ghost Hunter-what made you decide to go with dante?
You know, I can’t remember. lol. I know I read Dante in school, like everyone. I think I searched online for quotes and that one just fit the storyline. Thank God for internet!

What made you decide to Self Publish this book? Was it hard? Any advice for those thinking of doing it?
There were many reasons I decided to self publish. To be honest, I was tired of waiting around for editors to decide if they wanted to buy my book, only to then reject it. As for The Ghost Hunter, one editor said they didn’t buy books with ghosts. So that publisher was out. Another editor had the book for a year, yes a year!

So while I was waiting for months and months for editors to decide if they wanted The Ghost Hunter, some friends of mine started self publishing and making money, decent money. Since The Ghost Hunter was just sitting on my computer, I figured why not try self publishing it?

The hardest part of self publishing is realizing it’s all up to you. You can’t blame poor sales on editors or agents. It’s a bit frightening. Also, the actual formatting itself was difficult if you don’t know about computers. Fortunately, I had my husband to put my book up online for me. But Amazon and Smashwords both have guidelines you can read that help.

Where can we find The Ghost Hunter to buy?
You can find it on Amazon and Smashwords in Ebook format. And if you don’t have a kindle, you can still download it to your computer. If it does well, I might put it in print.

Do you have any favorite characters in the book? If so who?
You know, there was a secondary character I really liked, a male. But I cut him because the book was too long and I was afraid it would get too confusing with so many characters. I was trying to make it as commercial as possible for those New York publishers. Of course now I realize I should have left it as it was. But I did like him. He was fun.  Right now my favorite is probably Cristian, my hero. He’s charming and mysterious. He’s sexy and strong, but he’s truly good inside.

Were there any authors that influenced to write paranormal romance? If so, who?
I’ve always liked fantasy/paranormal books. When I was young I read The Chronicles of Narnia so many times my paperbacks started falling apart. That was probably my first experience with fantasy/paranormal writing.

Thank you so much for stopping by today Lori to talk about your newest book, The Ghost Hunter!
