One Wrong Move by Shannon McKenna
Please help me welcome Shannon McKenna to A Buckeye Girl Reads! I'm happy to be apart of the blog tour for her newest book, One Wrong Move. There is a giveaway at the end of the interview!
Describe the relationship that Alex & Nina have together in
one word.
Oh,
man—that’s cruel! I’m not a one-word kind of girl! I guess I would say . . .
incendiary.
If you could be related to either Alex or Nina, who it would
be?
I
would pick Nina in a heartbeat. Alex Aaro would scare me to death. He would be
nothing but trouble.
What was the most interesting thing you learned while
researching One Wrong Move?
I was
kind of chilled and horrified by the vast reach of the global mafia, and how
deeply they’ve sunk their claws into the world economy. I try not to think about
it too much, but it’s scarily huge.
What's the craziest thing that happens
to Alex & Nina?
Hmmm
. . . that would definitely be when they are hunted down and attacked by the
villain, and immobilized by his powers of psychic coercion. Seriously bad news.
Or, on another tack, maybe the craziest thing that happens is that in the midst
of all this mayhem, they fall in love with each other. How improbable is that?
I know, I know, we expect it in a romance—but it’s a crazy miracle every time.
Which was easiest to write: The beginning, middle or end of the
book?
The
end, the end, by all means. I am paralyzed by fear in the beginning, but by the
end, the fear is nipping at my heels and driving me onward, and all my synapses
are firing. I love writing at the end, even though by then, my life and my
house is a shambles.
Fun random question
If you could live in any time period,
what would it be?
Depends. Can I
bring antibiotics and ibuprofen with me? There are so many things I would love
to see, but the past seems like a deadly, dangerous place, with plague and war
and God knows what. Not that the modern world isn’t just as dangerous, of
course. But somehow, we seem to be able to maintain more of a fiction of safety
than people used to. I would love to
visit the Roman Empire at the height of its glory, and ancient Greece, and
sixteenth century Japan, and the Aztec and Mayan empires before the arrival of
the conquistadores. And Renaissance England, in the time of Shakespeare. And
Naples, in the time of the Bourbon empire. I’d like to meet Anne Bonney, the
pirate queen, and Elizabeth II, Mary Queen of Scots and Federico II, the sexy
and fascinating emperor of southern Europe in the early twelve hundreds. There’s
no end to it.
And as you can see,
despite the brevity of your questions, I am constitutionally incapable of
giving a simple one word answer. Thanks for having me!
One Wrong Move Blurb
Secrets Never Die
Alex Aaro has spent most of his life on the
run from his Ukrainian mafia family. But when he learns that crazy Aunt Tonya,
the only relative who ever gave a damn about him, is dying, he risks returning
home to say goodbye. He’s prepared for anything except the call from his
friend, Bruno Ranieri, that sends him on a wild and dangerous ride with a
mysterious woman who holds a deadly secret and a white hot passion that binds
them together.
Social worker Nina Christie has no idea how
much trouble she’s in when her Aunt Helga shows up bleeding at her shelter,
babbling in Ukrainian—and with one inexplicable act thrusts Nina into the heart
of a nightmare. Now a ruthless crime syndicate will stop at nothing to make
Nina disappear, and only Alex Aaro, that inscrutable six-foot-four rock hard
slab of lean muscle, stands between her and certain death. Now Nina and Alex
are in a race against time, death, and their desire for one another…

Shannon’s Bio
Shannon McKenna is the NYT bestselling author of over ten action packed, turbocharged romantic thrillers, among which are the stories of the wildly popular McCloud series. She loves tough and heroic alpha males, heroines with the brains and guts to match them, villains who challenge them to their utmost, adventure, scorching sensuality, and most of all, the redemptive power of true love. Since she was small she has loved abandoning herself to the magic of a good book, and her fond childhood fantasy was that writing would be just like that, but with the added benefit of being able to take credit for the story at the end. Alas, the alchemy of writing turned out to be messier than she'd ever dreamed. But what the hell, she loves it anyway, and hopes that readers enjoy the results of her alchemical experiments.
