Guest Post by Carolyn Brown: Inspiration to write in the New Adult Genre

Please help me welcome author  Carolyn Brown to A Buckeye Girl Reads. She's here today talking about her New Adult book, He Came For Mine & is talking about what inspired her to write in the New Adult Genre.

Title: He Came for Mine
Author: Carolyn Brown
Series:The Protector Series, book 2
Genre: New Adult

This book continues the story of Jazz and Sebastian's fated love affair.  Sebastian abandoned Jazz at the end of book one and returns to his home world of Aidensdein, which was burned to the ground when Jazz escaped from his nemesis Brennan. He is kept busy rebuilding the city and restoring order to his people.
Unfortunately, Jazz is left alone to transform into a part-vampire and deliver their child on her own.  Seb, of course does not know that she is even pregnant when he leaves her.  As Jazz tries to survive the changes to her own body and raise a young vampire, she finds herself being drawn into a relationship with someone who looks very much like Seb. Can she trust this stranger, or should she be wary?

'What inspired me to write in the New Adult Genre?' I have attached a pic of myself and my new cover page for my second book to be released in October. Thanks again for this opportunity

Today there is a wide audience calling for stories in the Fantasy, Paranormal and Si-fi genres.  This audience (ages 18 to 25 years) being targeted by New Adult authors have grown up with Harry Potter and Twilight, are now mature adults, looking for something a little more suited to their age, not saying they aren't interested in YA stories anymore, but they are also looking to reading books which push the boundaries, just that little bit further.

Targeting my writing to a New Adult audience enables me to extend further than what would be deemed appropriate for Young Adults.  I had never really made a decision to target the New Adult genre, I just seem to be dawn to writing to a mature audience.  I enjoy the freedom of delving that little bit deeper into my characters interactions and engagements with one another and their surrounding environments.  I find it easier to have fewer restrictions or limitations in what I write.

I love and am drawn to all the weird and wonderful things that go bump in the night and I also like to entice my audience with just a hint of sexual fantasy, which is allowed when writing in this genre.  I find a little violence is also acceptable when creating imaginary situations between paranormal creatures when writing for the New Age genre.

Not that I am a violent person or a sexual deviant, I am quite the opposite, but I do seem to have a darker side to my personality, which seems to surface when I write.

In real life I work with teenagers who have Learning Disabilities, supporting their Literacy and Numeracy needs. Although this is quite demanding work, I love it. I am happily married with two teenage children, (one almost an adult) and in my spare time I am focused on reading and writing.

My second book is scheduled to be released in the first week of October, titled 'He Came For Mine,' in The Protector Series.

You can find Book One in the Protector Series titled: He Came For Mine
