I was intrigued by this book because it's not every day you find a heroine who is a mystery solving sleuth who just happens to be a phone sex operator. I'm so glad I took a chance on this book because I loved it. It had just enough romance and mystery to hold my attention all the way through. There were even a few surprises along the way that I probably should have seen coming, but didn't.

This book had just enough romance thrown in with the mystery to hold my attention. I loved how vulnerable Emily was when it came to different aspects of her life-her weight, and dating.  When she's fired from the local paper for plagiarism by someone she considered a friend, Emily is at a loss as to what to do next. She can't get another job because it will interfere with college classes that she just started taking and loves and has to get something that will cover their cost. On a whim, she applies for a job as a Sex Phone Operator. Her unconventional job gives her a different outlook on her life and starts to give her confidence that she didn't have before-after all, if she can do this job she can do anything.

After a chance meeting with one of her best customers ends with him trying to blackmail her into getting her to see him again, she isn't that surprised when he's discovered murdered the next night. Afraid that she'll be a suspect, and  thinking that this could be a great chance to write a story and get a reporter job, she starts investigating who could have killed Jim Alexander. Her best friend Dennis and his boyfriend Craig try to talk her out of investigating and getting a normal job-but Emily is determined to solve this case and keep her current job which lets her be her own boss.

Her life gets a little complicated when Rick, the hottest guy in her history class asks her out. Emily really likes him, but is insecure because she is overweight (something I can totally relate to!)  and doesn't want him to find out what her job is. Rick totally won me over-he was mysterious and well nice. Normally I have issues with nice guy heroes (I'm weird, lol) but Rick was one of the few expectations to the rule. I just loved all the characters in this book-there are mobsters, jilted ex lovers, bitter widows and scheming ex best friends.  This book is so much a romance as it's about finding out who you are having the confidence to make changes to be that person. I'm not sure why I loved the mystery part of the book so much-but I did.  Phone Kitten was just the break I needed from all of my vampire books! Take a chance on this book-you'll be glad you did.
