Review: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

Title: Slave to Sensation
Author: Nalini Singh
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Psy Changeling #1

Nalini Singh is one of those authors I kept hearing about on twitter. She's one of those authors that everyone just gushes about. I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Until now that is.
I have to say that I was really surprised by how much I loved this book! It's one of the few books where the back of the book blurb doesn't do the story enough justice. This is from Amazon:

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of "rehabilitation"- the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was....
Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy co-existence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion-and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities-or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation...(From amazon)

I have to admit that the blurb always scared me off of the series for some reason. I couldn't tell you why now, but it did. Sascha and Lucas are just great characters. I really felt for Sascha not being able to show her emotions and the struggle she went through to accept who she was,, even though it meant that she was different then everybody else. Lucas is a great match for Sascha. He senses that there is something different about her, and doesn't let up until she admits that she's different and then helps her accept the fact that just because you're different doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Sascha is equally good for Lucas, because as someone who is used to being in charge and giving commands without thought. Sascha gives back to Lucas what he gives her and it makes for some great sizzling tension.
Slave to Sensation is one of those rare books were the hero/heroine fighting back and forth through the book actually works. Normally I get annoyed with that kind of a storyline, but it just worked.

The only problem I had with this book was the whole mystery part of who the killer was. I figured it out early on, and couldn't understand why bells weren't going off in Lucas' and Sascha's mind about the person who did it, because he was just creepy! The side characters in this book were great-from the creepy killer to the lovable changeling pups. I am really looking forward to reading everything by this author now. I just can't believe that it took me so long to read her! This is one of those books were I feel like this review didn't do the book justice!
