Review: Primal Attraction by Sydney Somers

Title: Primal Attraction
Author: Sydney Somers
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Pendragon Gargoyles #2
Number of Pages: 116

Primal Attraction is the second book in the Pendragon Gargoyle series, but can be read as a stand alone-but like with all books in a series, it helps to read them in order. Cale is a shape shifter Gargoyle who is after a dagger that will help end the curse that an evil sorceress put on his brother, Cian. He will stop at nothing to get it. Sorcha is a huntress that tracks down immortals for her boss, Rhiannon. Sorcha is used to being in charge and putting fear into her victims and stopping at nothing to get her way.
Sorcha's boss, Rhiannon wants the same dagger that Cale is after and he's Sorcha's newest assignment. Sorcha thinks it will be easy and is going in for the kill to get the dagger when Cale calls her by name-which no one is supposed to know.  No one is more surprised to see Sorcha then Cale. He had seen her die in front of him over 80 years ago, and still mourned her loss. She was his mate, and no one else would do for him. Cale has a lot of work ahead of him He has to convince Sorcha that she's his mate (she has no memory of their time together.) and protect his family from her boss.
Sorcha finds her loyalties torn between Rhiannon and her growing feelings for Cale. She's not sure she can complete her assignment of getting the dagger from Cale, because she knows what it will cost him and his family. How will she be able to choose between the two?
This was such a great paranormal romance. Sydney Somers writes such great heroines. Like Kennedy in the first novella, Sorcha is strong, tough and won't take any of Cale's crap. She gives back as much as she's given, and the turmoil she goes through with who to be loyalty was a bit heart wrenching. This is one series book were the obligatory I shouldn't be with him because story line actually worked, and worked well.  Cale was such a great hero.  He knew what he wanted and wasn't going to let anything stop him from getting it. He was tough, arrogant, with just a touch of sensitivity.
With some series, the characters of the first book take over the entire second book or there is so much set up for the next book in the series that the romance in the second book gets completely lost. Such was not the case here. Sorcha and Cale's romance was front and center, and I found myself wishing for just a little bit more of an appearance from Kennedy and Tristan, whom we met in the first book. The only fault I have is that since it was a novella, it was over with much too soon. I can't wait to read book 3 Primal Pleasures which is Cian's story.
