Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! I thought I would share a ghost story with you since it's Halloween.

My Ghost Story
In my 20s I lived in Chicago. The apartment I shared with a friend was built in the 1800s. Almost immediately after moving in we noticed odd stuff. Like cold spots in unairconditioned rooms in the middle of August. Doors opening on their own. The kitchen sink turning on and off on it's own.

My roommate bought a lock to put on her door b/c it kept opening on it's own. One night I watched her lock it. I got up in the middle of the night for some reason, saw the door opening and thought "great, she's up-I'm not the only one who can't sleep." Only there was one problem-when I looked in her room, she was sound asleep.

One of our friends came to visit, and he thought we were making this crap up. Only to discover for himself that we weren't. While he was there, we were all sitting at the dinner table talking, and the sink in the kitchen turned on by itself hours after we had used it. The hair dryer turned itself on...there were also footsteps that could be heard when we were all sitting down. (Originally we thought the footsteps were heard b/c it was an old building, but after knowing our neighbors schedule, we learned it wasn't that at all.)

We both were touched at different times, but during our stay we never felt threatened by the spirit. We felt like it was there watching over us more then anything. When we moved, we discovered that the tenant before us had died in the apartment. I haven't had an experience like that since. Has anyone else had any weird unexplained experiences?

This is a picture of the apartment building I lived in, which sadly now are condos:

  1. Yikes! That is creepy but kind of cool, as long as you didn't feel threatened. :)

  2. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who lived in a haunted house at one point in time. Hope you have a safe and fun Halloween.

  3. So neat that you felt like you were being watched over instead of being scared.

My only experiences were all at the church I grew up in. I've heard footsteps and talking. The talking was never loud enough to understand what was being said. My mom works there and she's heard the organ being played when no one else is there. Last year, they had the bathrooms re-done and one of the workers (who didn't know about what we & others have heard) had multiple experiences where he heard someone walking down a hallway.

  4. Wow, that's so cool. I've always wanted to have a paranormal experience, but I've never had one. Have a happy Halloween!

  6. I do believe in ghosts, I do believe in ghosts, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do.

I've lived in a place that was haunted similarly to yours More than one, actually. I'm lucky that way. Some of us rate the paranormal activity and some don't, I guess.

  8. Cool, I didn't know you had a ghost experience! My uncle became a ghost after he died (he committed suicide), but I just heard about it from my mom.

  9. At my house in Ironton, Ohio, my family and I swore the previous (who had died there) still haunted the place. The thermostat was changed everynight without anyone adjusting it. In the kitchen once, the cabinet opened, a pan fell out, and the cabinet closed.

My dad tried to hang his tools in the garage on the man's pegs, only to find that they had almost all fallen off the next day.

While my sister was in bed, a glass of water slid off of her dresser and fell onto the floor. By slid, I mean was slowly pushed...it was creepy.

We also never felt threatened, just creeped out!
