Mini Challenge Hour 19: Pet Love *now closed*

*Edited to add: This mini challenge is now closed. Thanks to everyone who won!

*Winner*

The winner was chosen by random.org and was:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Please email me your  t buckeyegirlreads@gmail.com so that I can contact you!

It’s hour 19! That’s a lot of reading! Don’t give up you can do it..just five short hours to go till the finish line! Here is a fun mini challenge to give your tired eyes a break from reading.   Pets are adorable aren’t they? Well, they are adorable until they steal your favorite book and chew it to pieces or lie down on it and refuse to give it up as their favorite nap space.  Not that I’m talking from experience or anything…

For this mini challenge all you have to do is to:
1.      1.)  Leave a minimum of  two sentences and max of 2 paragraphs of  how your pets have helped or hindered your reading. Do they cuddle up to you and keep you warm while you read? Or are they like my family’s dog Cleo and like to shove their favorite plush toy at your knee until you put that book down and play with them? (and then have to give them a treat for playing. Yes, I am a sucker!) The second  is to share a picture of your pet with us.

My example:
My dog Cleo totally hinders my reading. She has been known to pull the book out of my hands and then play chase around the room with it!  Bella, the cat though helps my reading. She loves to curl up next to me on the couch and keep me company when I'm at my parents.
This is a picture of a book that Cleo destroyed when she was a puppy:

2.       2.) Share a picture (or two or three)  of your pet with us!

Cleo and Bella..each pretending the other one isn't there.

Hard to believe this cute little ball of fur destroyed that book isn't it??
Or maybe not. (Yes, that is my shoe she is attempting to steal.)

There will be one winner, and the prize is a copy of Marley and Me, a stuffed teddy bar and some bookmarks.  I won the book and teddy bear during my first read a thon! As much as I love them, it’s time for them to find a new home and be showered with even more love.   The prizes are only for US/Canada residents only, sorry!! To enter please leave your blog on the Mr. Linky at the end of your post so we can see what great work you’ve done & leave your email address or twitter account on the comments so I know how to contact the winner!   This mini challenge will be open until hour 22.

That wasn’t too hard was it? Now, for one last cheer to keep you going through the night that I found on http://cheerleading.about.com  Hey, it’s late & I needed a little help…but I think it’s just what we need to keep on reading:!
Do we rock?
Yeah, Yeah
Take it to the top?
Yeah, Yeah
Are we gonna stop?
No way!

I hope everyone is having fun, and remember-don't freak out if you aren't at the place you thought you'd be now bookwise. In my first read-a-thon, I only read one complete book!!

  1. In previous readathons, the pets have been a bit of trouble. The prairie dogs have yipped or rolled around in balls around the room while we tried to read. Really quite distracting.

And the bird, well she always screams and the most inopportune times.

This year though -- they were all very quiet (once we moved the bird into an empty bedroom...)

  2. My pets pretty much ignore me while I'm reading ... though one of my dogs, Bailey, was on the bed with me for the first 3 hours and now the last 3 hours. Gracie just looks at me expectantly whenever I shuffle, thinking I'm going to get up and let her outside (the only thing she ever wants to do!), and Cooper just scares himself whenever he farts and scrambles about the room trying to figure out what the heck just happened!

  3. Oh man! I love pets and any chance I have to talk about my two puppies is great! Here is my link. This challenge is at the bottom

  4. I don't have pets so couldn't answer that one... but the book I'm reading is about Italy in the 90s. And at that time they still wanted pets to be outdoors. They didn't like their cats lying on beds or sofa's or anything. That was considered very wrong. Interesting how cultures can be different. They wouldn't eat your book though ;)

  5. Here's a post and a pic of my dog Zoe and how he contributes to my reading time. Thanks for a great mini-challenge.

  6. Pearl usually just ignores me unless she wants a cookie, and then she STARES until you give in and give her a treat.

  7. Roxie hasn't helped with this read-a-thon, but usually if I'm planning an uninterrupted reading period, she's a help. She lies on my chest or my lap and makes it hard for me to be distracted by getting up and doing something!

  8. I have a loveable, precious, smelly, neurotic Chinese Pug named Smeagol. Wherever I go, he has to be on my heels, especially when I'm on the couch reading. He's been a pretty good reading buddy, keeping my feet warm and curled up close. But the little guy is also pretty jumpy, and with the coming thunderstorm, he was up barking a lot. Thankfully, he's gone to "bed." for the night. Here's a link to his picture!

  9. I really, really want a pet, but I'm deathly allergic to pretty much all feathery and furry animals. They all make me miserable. But I really want a kitty to curl up with me when I read :(

  10. My kitty Chavez HATES when I'm reading. Today she's been especially demanding since I've been basically ignoring her all day! While I've been cheerleading, she tries to climb onto my laptop and while I've been reading, she's inserting herself between me and the book! Sigh, kitty, be nice and let me read!

  11. My cats love the read-a-thon! They love all the available laps as we read. Nilla, our dog loved the chance to snuggle on the couch. Mostly they haven't been too bad of a distraction but a few times I had three cats trying to get on my lap at once. Muzzy, my 19 year old foster kitty liked to attack my bookmark!

  12. My pug, Angus, has already made an appearance in my updates! He has been very supportive today and taking him outside has provided a much needed break. Thankfully, I have had help in that department. He has also been keeping me warm by cuddling up on my legs and snoring at decibles reminiscent of a tractor-trailor. He is now snoring in bed!

  13. My two cats, Lizzy and Mania, do both. They keep me warm and cozy while reading by laying at my feet. They spread an air of contentment for reading, and reading is never quite as enjoyable when they're not around. However, they also enjoy scratching their chins and ears by rubbing against whatever book I am reading, usually against the pages left to read. Sometimes, they go as far as attempting to lay atop the book if it's set down in front of me while I read! Give me attention! Love me! Love me! They're good kitties!

  14. Unfortunately, I do not have a pet. I wish that I did (a small dog) but alas, it is not meant to be right now. I imagine that it must be difficult with a pet constantly demanding your attention.

  15. My dog Oliver is only 10 months old, so he still has that puppy energy. He has been, by far, my biggest distraction during the read-a-thon. He wanted to play tug-of-war with my blanket and he wanted me to take him outside to play fetch. But he also curled up with me and took a nap and kept me warm. The distraction is definitely worth it! Great challenge idea!

  16. I'm not going to enter for the prize, but just wanted to post about the kitty who has been hanging out with me as I read (scroll to the bottom):

  17. Ahh, what a great mini challenge. I have a three-legged kitten, Flat Tire, who has been my co-blogger Jessica's and my semi-mascot during this Read-a-Thon. She's generally an annoying little gremlin who likes to be distracting (I love her dearly, but she is a gremlin), but once in a while she'll snuggle up and get cozy during reading.

    Mostly, though, she's a nuisance:

  19. My dog Kirby has been in the same room as me pretty much the whole time. Here and there he has been trying to demand attention but mostly he has been sleeping.

Here's a link to my blog post where I introduced us both :)

  20. My cat is really sweet when she cuddles with me, but she gets distracting when she won't cuddle with me :( Still she loves to snuggle but only if I'm under a blanket.

  21. Haven't seen much of my dog today, but my cat showed up to cuddle me and a book this morning.

Here are some pictures on my post.

  25. I've got cats. I curled up on the couch this morning and both cats wanted on my lap. Hindrance? Sure, they like me to pet both of them. Help? well, I'm stuck there with my book until they decide to get up :)

course, the warmth and purring often times sends me to sleep!

  28. My cat, Kitty, totally hinders my reading. She's only about a year old, and a Calico, and thus completely bonkers. She randomly flies of her hinges, doing laps around my bedroom, trying to eat my slippers, steals my food, and is generally just a bad cat. But I love her, and she's really sweet a lot of the time =)

  29. No need to enter me in the giveaway (I already have the book), but I wanted to play anyway!!!

  30. Once in a while my parrotlet will sit still on my shoulder while I read, but most of the time he would demand me to tickle him and get upset if I get too into the book and forget to.

But sometimes he loves to chew the books. Just a quick punch from the beak, and a teeny triangular hole appears!
